Job Description


As the public face of Afrinox the Retail Associate is responsible for dealing with any and all client questions about the products and services Afrinox offers. A Retail Associate is expected to be continuously updating their knowledge of the company products, services, and policies.

Retail Associates greet customers on arrival then assist the customer with any questions they have about the purchase they want to make. A Retail Associate helps customers find merchandise and purchase products in a store. Their duties include ensuring the store is appropriately stocked with merchandise, assisting customers as needed and performing transactions like sales and returns. They often help the customer with to resolve common complaints.

Complaint handling is a critical part of this position. Turning a frustrated customer into a happy customer, while adhering to company policies, requires a combination of empathy and tact. Another key responsibility is maintaining the presentation and cleanliness of the sales floor, products, signage, and displays.

Retail Associates should possess excellent customer service skills. Retail Associates scan items, ensure that prices are quantities are correct, and collect payments and provide helpful information to customers products, promotions, or item location. They also assist customers by explaining or recommending items, answering questions. Sales associates maintain a clean shop and a clean workspace.

A Retail Associate is responsible for processing cash, debit, credit and check transactions using a cash register or other point-of-sale system in a retail environment. Duties include balancing the cash register, making change, recording purchases, processing returns and scanning items for sale and keeping track of all cash and credit transactions. Stock takes and inventory reconciliation.

To succeed as a Retail Associate, you should have a strong work ethic and high level of accuracy. As a Retail Associate you need to be honest and have attention to detail. You should be responsible, attentive to customer needs, and committed to providing excellent service. Additionally, you should also be available to work evening, weekends, and Public Holidays.

The Retail Associate reports to the supervisor if no supervisor they report directly to the manager. Retail Associates are responsible for reporting any issues, inquires, voids, loss, daily sales and anything else that pertains to the well-being of Afrinox.


Duties and Responsibilities:


A Retail Associate is responsible for handling various sales activities in a retail store, including opening and closing the store, stock take, facilitating purchases and providing customer service.

Sales Associates are responsible for maintaining positive impressions for Afrinox. Retail Associates duties and responsibilities include:

• Greeting customers when they walk through the door

• Building rapport through conversation and honest recommendations

• Directing customers to merchandise within the store.

• Answer customer questions about products or services

• Serve customers by helping them select products.

• Drive sales through engagement of customers, suggestive selling, and sharing product knowledge

• Informing customers of any extra charges if necessary

• Inviting the customer to join a loyalty program if there is one

• Provide outstanding customer service.

• Superior product knowledge.

• Introducing promotions and opportunities to customers.

• Cross-selling products to increase purchase amounts.

• Keeps clientele informed by notifying them of preferred customer sales and future merchandise of potential interest.

• Document sales by creating or updating customer profile records.

• Ringing up sales and arranging for delivery or pick-up of the customer’s order if needed

• Examine products being purchased for damages and price accuracy.

• Manages financial transactions.

• Processes payments by totaling purchases, processing cash, and credit and debit cards.

• Calculate and return change when required by the payment method

• Maintain adequate change denominations in the cash drawer and request additional change

• Answers routine billing questions/issues from customers.

• Bagging or wrapping purchases to ensure safe transport.

• Following all store procedures regarding coupons, gift cards, or the purchase of specific items

• Report any overages, shortages, or voids immediately.

• Assisting in maintaining the back stock room and setting up merchandise displays on the sales floor

• Assists with inventory, including receiving and stocking merchandise.

• Collaborating with fellow team members to keep the sales floor area clean and organized at all times Maintaining an orderly appearance throughout the sales floor and a clean workspace.

• Alert management of potential security issues and report issues with equipment

• Achieving established goals and increasing in store sales.

• Assists in the opening and closing of a retail location which includes and but not limited to cash handling and deposits.

• Train and sometimes supervise new cashiers or retail workers.

• Completes, processes, and maintains applicable paperwork and records.

• Count the cash in the drawer at the end of the day ensuring cash equals receipts.

• Performs daily, weekly and monthly audits, and weekly stock takes.

• Issue quotes and invoices for clients.

• Answer phone in a timely manner.

• Represent Afrinox in a professional manner.


Qualifications/ Skills:


• Basic PC knowledge and familiarity with electronic equipment, like cash register and POS

• Strong communication and time management skills

• Customer satisfaction-oriented

• Ability to Listen

• Meet sales goals and sell to customer needs

• Product knowledge

• A professional appearance.

• Maintain a positive attitude and focus on customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment.

• The ability to read, write, and perform basic math.

• Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly.

• High level of energy with strong customer service skills.

• Ability to stand, walk, lift heavy items, and work with other team members in a fast-paced environment to provide excellent service.

• Attention to detail.

• Helpful, courteous approach to resolving complaints.

• Customer service or cashier experience.
